Reliable Static Sealing Solutions for Hydraulic and Pneumatic Applications
Located within a groove and seal within a confined space, static seals provide an effective sealing solution for both gaseous and liquid media within zero, low and high-pressure environments. They work by creating a contact force that’s applied through pressure from the medium and an axial or radial deformation, depending on the seal design. As the name suggests, static seals have no rotating, oscillating or reciprocating motion between the seal and gland surfaces.
While O-rings are the most common form, other configurations—such as inflatable seals, dual seals, back-up rings, V-rings, square rings, and custom designs—can tailored for specific applications.
Types of Static Seals
Axial Static Seals
These are under pressure on both sides of the mating surfaces. These include face seals, crush seals and dovetail glands.
Radial Static Seals
These morph into the required sealing shape through compression that’s applied to the diameter. There are two types of radial static seals – a piston seal and a rod seal.
Advanced Sealing Solutions for Enhanced Asset Efficiency
Effective static sealing relies on the right combination of profile and material. Precise geometry ensures optimal sealing performance and durability. While all seals experience wear over time, choosing long-lasting options helps prevent undetected leaks and protects overall asset efficiency.
Often overlooked, seals play a critical role in asset reliability. Upgrading to high-performance static seals can significantly enhance operational efficiency—reducing energy consumption, boosting performance, extending maintenance intervals, and lowering the risk of unexpected downtime.
