Reducing Corrosion and Deposits on Tube Sheets and Tubes with Chesterton ARC 855
Challenge
Background
Crevice corrosion occurs and progresses at the gaps between the tube sheet and tubes of heat exchange equipment, making deposits more likely to accumulate and reducing the equipment’s original heat transfer performance. Corrosion tends to progress due to electrochemical reactions caused by concentration differences of chemical components in the microscopic gaps between the tube sheet and tubes. Suppress corrosion at the tube sheet and tube interfaces and reduce deposit buildup to prevent a decline in heat transfer performance.

1.Perform surface preparation followed bysurface cleaning.
2.Apply ARC 855by brush in two coats
(To prevent interlayer delamination, the secondcoat is applied at the appropriate overcoatingtiming.)
Total dry film thickness after two coats: adjustedto 400–700 μm.
3.After the coating has cured, visually inspect forpinholes and any curing defects.
Note:
When applying resin coatings, pay close attention to weather conditions and ambient temperature.

By December 2025, corrosion at the tube sheet and tube interfaces had been suppressed, improving flow within the heat exchanger.
This improvement stabilised heat transfer performance and reduced routine maintenance costs.
At this facility, improvements using ARC 855have already been implemented on more than 10 identical heat exchangers.
