Protecting the Internal Surfaces of a Roller Table Gear with Chesterton ARC S5
Challenge
Problem
Condensation forms inside the gear reducer when heated plates pass through, causing corrosion. Rust-contaminated moisture degrades the oil, requiring replacement. To prevent this, rust was removed during annual maintenance using grinders.

Solution
Recommendation
As the temperature rises to approximately 100 °C when rolled plates pass through, ARC S5 was selected. Surface preparation was carried out using Sponge-Jet #30.

Results
The coating was applied in May 2022, and after 2 years and 7 months, no corrosion or oil degradation has been observed, with stable performance maintained. Application cost: ¥2,000,000
Previously, casing maintenance was carried out every year during the annual shutdown, requiring
8 personnel per day over a 10-day period.
