Improving a Shovel Bucket Cylinder at an Aluminium Recycling Plant Using Chesterton Polymer Seals
Challenge
Hydraulic oil was leaking from the bucket cylinder used to raise and lower the shovel when scooping scrap aluminium and feeding it into the melting furnace.

Solution
The dust seal and rod seal were replaced with Chesterton components. A new cylinder was installed together with AWC 860/650 CW21K and AWC 800 R22K.

Results
New cylinder + Chesterton seals + replacement labour = ¥360,000 As of 28 November 2025, the system has remained leak-free for 48 months, resulting in a total cost reduction of ¥1,200,000.
