Chain drives of mobile equipment (bottom of the basin and cherry picker), which were used as a platform to provide vessel hull service work, suffered from severe corrosion from copper slugs and salt water. Also, sand that accumulated during a sandblasting activity, stuck to the chain, making the chain prematurely wear, stiff and noisy. Chain drives are usually changed twice a year.
