Emergency Flush Water Leak Repair
Challenge
A flush water line feeding a mechanical seal slurry pump application experienced a leak at critical T-junction. The leak occurred near a T-connection and elbow, where corrosion and erosion had weakened the pipe walls around the weld seam.
The resulting leak posed several risks:
- Potential mechanical seal overheating
- Process interruption
- Increased safety hazards from water leakage
- Costly shutdown and pipe replacement
Solution
The leak was isolated, and then the surface was power tool cleaned to SP10/Sa 2 1/2 finish. The surface was then decontaminated to allow for a proper repair. ARC 5ES was applied to repair the damaged area, followed by ARC Glass Wrap fiber to reinforce the pipe.
