During the drying process of limestone in manufacturing cement, a conveyor drive gear seal leaked profusely.
The existing seal is a thin ‘V’ shape, two-step ring which only lasts six months. The centring of the seal case is challenging due to the large equipment size and equipment run-out issues.
Root cause: oscillating equipment and case misalignment.
Objective: reduce oil leakage and extend seal life.

The original V seals were replaced every six months due to oil leakage.
Labor cost: USD 230×2 men×12 times = USD 5,520
Packing cost: USD 1,500×2 rings×12 times = USD 36,000
After implementing the Chesterton solution, the machine has been in operation for over 69 months with only a small amount of leakage.
