Chesterton® 22K | Clay Dryer Oil Leakage Improvement
Challenge
Background
At a well-established cement plant, a large amount of oil was leaking from the support roller section of a clay dryer. Leakage had been occurring from the commissioning stage, the seal life was very short, ranging from a few days to two months, and a lot of labour and cost was involved in cleaning the area.
Root Cause
The use of metal bearings caused constant and large shaft shake. The shaft diameter is large at 380 mm, so there was no suitable oil seal, so a general-purpose X-shaped oil seal was cut on site and installed using adhesive to fix the cut-outs.
Existing X-shaped oil seal: lubricates sliding parts by feeding grease from the oil seal.

To cope with large shaft diameters and shaft shake, we recommend a two-part 22K rotary seal designed to suit your equipment.
Advantages
Custom designed with a longer lip to accommodate shaft shake.The split seal is specially designed for easy and reliable installation and does not require gluing of the breaks due to its split design.The bearings are made of a thermosetting polymer (AWC 860)containing molybdenum disulphide, which has a high hardness and a low coefficient of friction, making them less likely to damage the shaft. It also keeps oil in the bearing section from escaping and prevents foreign substances such as sand in the atmosphere from entering the interior.This reduces the time and cost of lubrication work from the seal.
